What it Takes to Land the Job You Want: Infograhphic

From  at the Smarterer Blog….

The Career Advisory Board at DeVry University has put together an excellent infographic detailing job market in 2013, which forecasts potential skills gaps and the measures job seekers are taking to fill them. A couple highlights:

  • Technological know-how – and specifically, social media savvy – feature on the list of skills projected to see a rapid increase in demand over the next five years. But, according to both job seekers and hiring managers, neither are as important as the capability to be versatile and fill many roles. Wear many hats, and make social media one of them.
  • 74% of hiring managers lean on instinct to select that right candidate, and only 17% are satisfied with the skills and experience presented to them in the candidate pool. This spells out one thing pretty clearly to me: even if you’re a little underqualified according to the job description, there’s room for you to “steal” the position with a killer cover letter and a passionate interview.
  • If you’re standing still, you’re moving backward. 72% of job seekers dedicate their time to improving their skills. Why not hone yours with our skills tests?
