Want more ideas on how to incorporate collaborative learning into your tutoring sessions? Join us and learn how to incorporate technology, creative writing and collaborative reading into your lessons. Whether you’re a technology guru or a technology novice we’ll share creative ideas on using blogs, Facebook and Twitter in tutoring.
Our first guest presenter Ellen Prewitt, will show how to use creative writing to increase comprehension and reading skills. Ellen is a former lawyer, published author and facilitates a writing group at the Door of Hope, a support center for homeless men and women.
Josh Clark, Head of School at the Bodine School, will share innovative ways of reading collaboratively with your learner. Josh is an exciting presenter that takes on the challenge of ‘working to undermined a “one-size fits all” educational mentality.’

The Adult Learning Program at Literacy Mid-South provides basic education for low-literate adults. We offer the adult learning program from our midtown location and other sites in the city. More than 250 trained volunteers provide private and group tutoring for adults who want to learn. Volunteer tutors and students meet in area libraries and other locations during the weekdays or weekends. The adult learning program at Literacy Mid-South draws upon more than thirty years of experience in community literacy education, and has received awards for excellence in programming. Our programs serve adults who read on a 6th grade level or below.
